OSSD Holder: National Student Privileges
OSSD holders applying under the OUAC 102 code benefit from broader scholarship access and stronger university admission opportunities compared to standard international applicants.
OSSD Holder vs International Applicant
Application Code | Student Type | Scholarship Opportunities | University Admission Opportunities |
|---|---|---|---|
102 | National (OSSD Holder) | Increased by 90% High eligibility for entrance and merit-based scholarships | Increased by 90% Considered alongside the Canadian curriculum students |
105 | International Student | Limited, mainly academic merit scholarships | Subject to a 10% quota Subject to government quotas and restrictions |
Students enrolled at Kingston Collegiate gain a significant advantage in university applications through their OSSD status. After enrollment, students receive an OUAC application number and are assigned the 102 application code, which allows them to apply to Canadian universities under national (Canadian curriculum) student consideration rather than as standard international applicants.
Being classified under the OUAC 102 category places OSSD holders in a stronger position for both scholarship eligibility and university admission. Universities evaluate these students alongside Canadian high school graduates, using the Ontario curriculum and grading standards they are most familiar with. This often results in higher admission success rates and access to a wider range of entrance scholarships.
In contrast, students applying under the 105 international code face additional limitations, including restricted scholarship access and government-imposed admission quotas. By earning the OSSD through Kingston Collegiate, students significantly improve their academic standing and competitiveness in the Canadian university system.
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma(OSSD)
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is a provincial diploma granted to high school graduates in Ontario.
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a provincially recognized diploma awarded to high school graduates in Ontario, Canada. It is part of Ontario’s publicly funded education system and is also offered by accredited private secondary schools. The OSSD is granted to students who successfully complete the Ontario curriculum, including required academic courses and approved programs.
In the Kingston Collegiate Dual Diploma program, we offer a one-year University Pathway Program for mature students with a strong level of English proficiency. Students may enter the program at the Grade 11 level and complete their OSSD requirements within one academic year.
The program follows a clear and structured process. Students first choose an academic stream aligned with their intended university program. Kingston Collegiate then reviews the student’s local high school transcript and determines the required OSSD courses.
Students complete the approved courses, fulfill the Ontario Literacy Test requirement, and complete the Community Involvement / Leadership service hours to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
